Our Services & Treatments

Chagford Osteopathy offers a wide range of bespoke treatments and services for people of all ages:

Osteopathy

Osteopathy is a safe and effective form of manual therapy suitable for people of all ages from babies to the more mature, and everyone in between including pregnant women and sportspeople. Osteopathic care is based on the individual needs of the person and helps assess, diagnose and treat a wide range of musculoskeletal symptoms and other health issues.

The health risks associated with osteopathic treatment are known to be very low but if you have any concerns before accessing osteopathic treatment you could consult your GP, or discuss them with us.

Osteopaths are trained and regulated primary health care practitioners who use a wide range of techniques that primarily focus on releasing musculoskeletal tension, stretching muscles and mobilising joints. Osteopathic treatment is often supported with the appropriate information, exercise and advice.

Osteopaths may liaise with GP's and other health care professionals to ensure you receive the most appropriate care, or suggest further investigation if required.

Medical Acupuncture

Used as an adjunct to osteopathic treatment to help relieve and reduce a wide range of musculo-skeletal symptoms.

Bespoke Small Joint Treatment

Symptoms of pain, swelling, stiffness and inflammation affecting the small joints of the fingers and hands can have a major impact on everyday activities affecting the quality of life and levels of independence.

Similar symptoms affecting the toes and feet can affect balance, reduce mobility and make trips and falls more likely.

Our bespoke small joint treatments are designed to help reduce symptoms associated with conditions such as Osteoarthritis, Dupuytren's Contracture, Raynaud's and poor blood circulation to improve overall function.

Postural Assessment

As creatures of habit, we tend to develop our individual range of standing, sitting, sporting and working postures as a result of compensations due to past injury, underlying medical conditions, or symptoms of pain.

Poorer posture over prolonged periods and with advancing age can lead to the development of changes in bone, muscle and connective tissues which can be prevented by improved postural behaviours.

Sports & Remedial Massage

Sports and Remedial massage are deep massage forms that use kneading and stretching techniques to help mobilise muscles and joints to improve their range of motion and function.

A concise medical history is taken in advance to ensure the massage is safely adapted to your body.

Wellbeing

The impact of everyday stresses and strains of the world we live in can erode our wellbeing affecting our emotional, mental and physical health resulting in us feeling or functioning at a reduced level.

Our well-being sessions offer bespoke treatment plans to help redress the individual factors causing imbalance and help restore resilience.

Women’s Health

Pregnancy and childbirth often present a range of challenges to a woman’s body affecting the spine, pelvic floor and birth canal, either during pregnancy or following childbirth. Busy lives looking after family and children often results in the focus being on others with unresolved symptoms increasing later in life, especially around or following menopause.

Osteopathic Women’s Health treatments can help address some of the more sensitive issues women often feel they have to continue to manage on their own.

Workstation Assessment

Prolonged and poor postures whilst using a PC in the office or at home whether working, studying or for leisure, increases the potential for musculoskeletal symptoms and conditions to develop in the back, hips, legs, neck, arms and shoulders leading to symptoms of pain, reduced efficiency, reduced function and increasing disability.

Workstation Assessments can be arranged either at work or in the home office to assess desk set-up and the tasks undertaken, offering practical advice, information and support to help improve posture and reduce symptoms.

Gut Biome Testing

Functional Medicine Gut Biome testing helps assess a range of bowel disorders caused by food allergies, sensitivities, intolerances, nutritional deficiencies, genetic factors and under/overpopulation of normal gut bacteria. Issues with gut biome can cause a range of symptoms including abdominal bloating, increased urgency, altered bowel habits, reduced energy and increased fatigue levels.

A stool sample is sent directly to the Laboratory for testing and the test results are usually received within 14 days.

Orthotics

Altered foot posture affects people of all ages including young children, adults, the elderly and active sportspeople. Foot posture alteration contributes to misalignment of the knees and hips and can cause backache.

Our Orthotics are medical-grade insoles which help support correct foot alignment & function and also relieve symptoms affecting the ankles, knees, hips and back caused by changes in the feet.
